CHA Receives $1M Grant to Support Nursing Career Development

The funding will help CHA nurses advance their careers to serve people in need

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), a community health system serving Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston’s metro-north communities, has received a generous $1 million gift from the Cambridge-based PDB Foundation to help CHA nurses advance their careers to serve people in need.

The PDB Foundation said, "We are delighted to support the critical work that CHA does in our community and the training and career development for nurses who provide such an essential role in caring for patients. Our goal is to enhance opportunities for individuals and this program will achieve this for a very important part of our community."

These development funds will support an educational pathway for CHA nurses to enhance their knowledge base and leadership skills. This includes a special focus on equity and inclusion -- strengthening its commitment to nurses who represent our diverse communities.

As part of this program, CHA has developed partnerships with the Organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL) and other professional organizations. CHA nurses will now be able to access a variety of professional and educational programs through these partners, which will benefit emerging nurse leaders, nurse managers, and seasoned nursing executives.

Lanie Ward, RN, MBA, CHA’s chief nursing officer, highlighted the value of this new partnership. "CHA nurses are the lifeline of our health system -- working at our hospitals, care centers, and in our community programs. That’s why this gift is so important. It will give hundreds of our nurses access to distinguished faculty and thought leaders, elevating our clinical teams and fostering individual career growth. It is an investment in nursing that will pay dividends for years to come. We are so grateful to the PDB Foundation for making this a reality."
